Discover Dance

 

Discover Dance is a fully portable outreach program that is interactive,educational and entertaining. It includes a completely self-contained theater that can set up in any large space, such as a school cafeteria or gymnasium. The performers are members of the Ballet Pensacola performing company and Artistic Staff.

Audiences are presented appropriate selections from the Ballet Pensacola repertory. The goal is to entertain, educate and encourage participation in the performing arts. The dance artists interact with audience members to help them better understand their experience.

The primary focus of Discover Dance is to offer in-school performances to students throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. With a regular schedule of performances, Ballet Pensacola can entertain over 15,000 students each season.

With the ever diminishing funding available for arts programming in schools, many children never get the opportunity to experience the performing arts. Discover Dance seeks to provide that important experience and offer an inspirational spark to young lives.

Professional dancers are hired each season to accomplish this important mission. These dancers also appear in Ballet Pensacola season performances and serve as mentors to the younger company dancers.

While appearing in local schools is a large portion of the Discover Dance efforts, Ballet Pensacola is also available to perform for other local groups as well.

Support for Discover Dance is derived from grants, corporate and private donations, sponsorships and admissions. Discover Dance experiences can be sponsored for as little as $1 per child.

Discover Dance is the ideal vehicle for melding arts with education. Ballet Pensacola is committed to enhancing the cultural life of the community by developing an appreciation of the art of dance through quality dance training and excellent dance performances.
