Ballet Pensacola

There is no timelier production than Ballet Pensacola’s presentation of Freedom Dance which addresses the history and legacy of non-violent protest worldwide. This performance is a combination of contemporary movement and theatre set to music and speeches from the 1890s to the 1970s.

Freedom Dance explores the importance of standing up for one’s beliefs by depicting historical protests stemming from events such as the Wounded Knee Massacre, Kent State shootings, Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” Speech, the Tiananmen Square protests and more. The show discusses American’s first amendment rights to free speech and the responsibility that accompanies these rights.
